I just installed my amp(mrd-m605) with a 60 amp fuse and I frayed the power wire a bit when crimping it on the ring terminals. I probally lost about 1/8 of the wire so does that effectively bring me down to like 5-6 guage wire since in theory this wire would melt earlier? I'm planning to install another amp in future that's why I'm asking.

Shouldnt make too much of a difference over such a very, very short piece. Also your ring terminals that you crimped on, will add that extra bit of copper, that you frayed away.

my only comment would be to either trim away the excess copper you didnt crimp or wrap it up in electrical tape

Dont crimp till your ready to crimp
