Okay, from the research I've done replacing the deck is difficult at best.

So, if a go with an LOC what are some of the pros and cons of LOC's and could you guys recommend some brands/models.

At first i'd only be looking to add a sub an amp and be able to have bass control from the front (bass ****). But I would like the ability to add a front stage amp to the LOC at a later date to run my three ways, if the factory speakers are as bad as I've heard.

The Audio Control 6XS (inc bass remote) if it is the Bose based system and the LC6i (+ optional bass remote) if it is the non bose based system work excellent in this application.

 

off topic but beautifull car, I learned to drive stick in one of those, a little more headroom, and that car would be perfect.

 

I have the Bose setup. Why do I need the LC6i instead of the 6XS?

Also, someone recommended the JL clean sweep or the Audio Control DQL-8. Does anyone have any experience with either of these products, I looked them up and they seem quite pricey?

The Bose system used equalization at the rear amplifier, thus the Cleansweep or the LC8i would be beneficial to get rid of the heavy equalization placed by the factory Bose amp. The 6XS while it is advertised as a crossover, is actually also a highly advanced signal interface. It is a line driver, derives a signal for the sub (with level control included that fits in the stock knockout panel to the lower left of the steering wheel), it is also of course a crossover. The nice thing about this as well is that it has fully adjustable level control on it. The system in the RX8 uses a higher factory output voltage on the front as compared to the rear preamp lines. It is best to average out these lines as best as possible before you have to go and crank gains up on a amplifer and introduce noise into the system.

The 6XS is a simple install. It is spliced into the factory preamp lines in the rear of the car before the signal hits the Bose amp in the center of the rear deck. There will be 5 preamp lines coming into the amp, all are in a grey sheath. It is some simple work to figure out what lines are the front and rear, left and right. It is also very easy to attach new wires into the factory wiring at this point, then extend these wires to where the 6XS is going to be installed. Solder on rca ends to these extension wires, plug it in and you are done with the interface.

 

I have one as well... They are not totally bad to work on, having 2 friends that have one as well. Im keeping the stock deck. Using a Navone LOC before the Bose amp in the back and than ppi dcx.
