Not Loud Enough?
#1
I seem to be noticing that my sub isn't very loud from the outside of my car, from the inside it hits hard but a lot of bass is comin outta my 6x9's, I did try puttin the fade more the the front but it still made my sub sound not so loud? So is there a different way to wire the amp or something to make my sub louder? Its last years Rockford Fosgate 12" subwoofer with a ported box. Running off a Punch 200s RF amp.

Depending on the deck the rca's may fade out as well with the fader to the front.
The way for that to work is if the rca's are non fading or if you have a set of front rca outputs.
Caps are good , and possibly a set of foam baffles to protect them, i think CT has them for $10.
I checked the kenwood site and your rca's fade with the fader, meaning when you fade to the front the signal to your amp decreases because they are considered rear outputs.
You can check your manual to be sure.

I'm not sure what you expect from 1 12" with just over 200 watts in the trunk of a car. But if you feel that it truly is lacking then I would just play with the gains and the fade on the HU. A cap is a pretty controversial component. Many feel that if your existing electrical system isn't sufficent to power your system continuously then you need to up grade your alt. Adding a cap will only add strain to your alt and could cause failure. I personally have no experiance with caps but theoretically they don't really make sense. Good luck.

Thanx for the tips. I can't afford anymore upgrades or extra equipment. So I'll mess with the gain. And get a friend to look at it, hez running a $1000 JL sub, that thing pounds, buddy has to wear ear plugs to drive with it on lol.

I tried facing in and out still the same, the only difference is it hits harder into me when its faced in. And the gain is up full the only other setting on the amp to change is the bass boost 1 level is left. And if that doesn't work then I think I bought a pos and I should take it back and get something else. But does Future Shop do the whole Satisfaction Guarenteed thing?

Maybe it could be in the wrong box.
Did you install the amp and sub yourself? If the bass is louder inside than out, isn't that supposed to be a good thing? Am I the only one here that wants to hear the bass from the inside of a car and not the outside?
Location is important, but the car also could have an effect on the bass produced.
Gain is at full? How high can you turn up the volume before you hear the sub distort?

Two types of caps:
1) Caps that store electricity for a time when voltage drops - (this is what you mentioned)
2) Caps that cut out low frequencies - (these are what was intended in the previous post)
The 2nd type of cap (when placed in series in the speaker line) offers a "free-ride" to midrange and treble frequencies. But it cuts off the bass frequencies (something like a 12db/octave). This prevents too much bass reaching your speakers. That way if you have more power going to your speakers than they can handle, you can still protect the speakers from blowing by cutting out the more powerful bass tones.
As for installing a cap on your speakers, unless your 6x9's are distorting, clipping, or receiving more power than manufacturers specs, don't worry about it.
But back to the original topic. As Caprice said, try different types of enclosures aimed different directions. I've heard good things about the SPL produced from an ABC box, but I know nothing of the logistics on building an ABC box.
