Ported box design...

trying to design a ported box for a single 12" Infinity Reference 1230, i have the specs for a round port, but would rather with a slot port design.

The specs call for 2cuft after displacement of .11.... 4" diameter, 12.26" long frequency of 30hz

the design of the box itself would need to be under 15"H and 15"D... would also be a bonus to keep it to a wedge style, i would have another 3" of room at the bottom- need to get the angle tho... would assume that the port would just be slanted to follow the contours of the rear of the box?

whew... now if someone could give me a port length/diameter that'd help out alot... feel like a total newb asking, but wanna be sure i'm getting it right and ahve only built sealed anclosuers (never owned a ported one for some reason)...

1 more quick question... is there a difference between rear firing and side firing slot ports (MTX's new and imporved boxes as tehy claim lol)

thanks all

A slot port is simple. The length stays the same, all you need to do is know the area of the port. The formula for the area of a circle is pie*r^2. The formula for a rectangle is l*w. Figure out the area of your circular port and then start the calculation for the rectangular port.

I prefer my port to be on the same side as my driver, if it cannot be then I would try and fire it into a corner.

remember that a slot port will displace more volume than a round port...so take than into account when you are designing your box
