Is it possible to use car speakers as in-wall speakers for my stereo?

Hey,

I cannot find any in-wall speakers at retailers near me, so I was wondering if it is possible to hook up car speakers to a stereo?

you can do it but you so shouldn't. it is a different resistance in the speakers.

is that because the car runs on DC, not AC?

All current reieved from a driver is AC, whether the power supply is AC or DC does not matter, the main difference with car speakers is that they are able to hold up to weather better. The resistance values in average home systems range from 8 to 16 ohms where as car applications have almost always been 4 ohms (excluding subwoofers. You may just have to come up with a wiring scheme that will provide the proper load at the amp.

check your amp specs .........my sony, techniques and yamaha recievers all say they'll drive 4 ohm loads (my sony has an 8ohm/4ohm switch on the back)
