In a nut shell my amp rack broke last week forcing me out of competition this March. After much time and thoughts away from this hobby, that I love so much, I took a stab today at creating a final attempt finishing my trunk.

The design is 3 Audison's, a 701 and an ultimo 12". The idea is to fiber glass over the spare tire while incorporating an aluminum plate to accompany the factory spare bolting system. The plate will be about 10" in diameter and will be attached to the enclosure with several layers of fiberglass.

The bottom of the amp rack/sub enclosure will be 3/4" baltic birch. A large circle cut out will be done over the spare tire. The top side of the amp rack would need a 2" high by 3" thick circles rings to elevate the sub from the spare. This will also separate the enclosure from the amp rack(air space wise) The baffle is to be secured to this then, a top plate to cover everything.

Also I'm not sure if I should use threaded rods around the spare to help the baffle. Since the cut out is going to be quite large and cause the wood to become flimsy.

Check out the drawings....I'm starting this tonight as soon as I get home from work.

looks very clean and efficient, albeit a little simple. I like it, but not too sure if you'll get an creativity points for it. I'd use threaded rods or something to brace arouns the subwoofer. Anything you can do to add rigidity helps.

I'm not sure what you do for a living, but I suspect like the rest of us we all have jobs. I do all my thinking at work and research....I'm off to the lumber store!

^ Me too. I contemplate and plan out what I need to do while I'm commuting to/from work. I don't have much time to sit and stare at something in the garage.
