Speaker Pods
Speaker Pods
And for my first post...
I'm looking to begin setting up my first system, but unfortunately I'm a student on a tight budget. I've got a set of Infinity Perfect 6.1 components I bought from a friend that I want to throw in my 92' Civic. Problem is I'm really not sure how to mount them. Definitely doesn't seem to be adequate space in the factory door mounts. I had looked at buying a set of Q Forms kick panel pods but have been warned against them not sounding great and taking up a lot of foot room. I'm primarily looking for good sound quality but I'm not sure what route to go at this point.
Seems to me that custom door pods may be the best bet, saving me the foot room in the process. If I were to get this done at a shop, how much could I expect to pay? On the other hand, what would the material costs be like to try to do this on my own? Any other recommendations that might work better for me?

if you are on a tight budget and looking for decent sound, get speakers that fit your factory location.
building any custom enclosure for the speakers will be much more money than selling the infinity's and buying a nice set that is a little slimmer.

I’ll be the first of many to tell you don't start building anything until you know how it sounds. Build some temp baffles for the 6.5" and some for the tweets and start placing them in different parts of the car until you are happy with the sound. (i.e., kick panel area for the 6.5 and maybe the a-pillar for the tweet.) There are a lot of great tutorials all over the web including this site of DIY'er that try and make their own kick panels and tweeter pods. I say go for it try and build your own. Put the 6.5" in the kick and the tweet in the a-pillar.
Get some mdf to cut your rings, some fleece, fiberglass resin, body filler, sandpaper and go to town.
Of course it’s not that easy but I’m keeping the response light.
