Steering wheel controls with aftermarket decks?
#1
I have a 92 cutlass supreme sl with a cassette deck, electronic climate control, and buttons for both on the steering wheel. i want CD, and want to make sure that the climat control will not be affected by removing the stock deck. also is there any way to retain the audio controls and use them for an aftermarket deck? i assume i would need a special deck or something like that as well as an adapter of some sorts. anyone done this and can help me find out exactly what i need. i have a panasonic DF600U that i was planning on installing on the new car, but now i don't know if it will work. thanks

Your climate controls should not be affected at all. That was a 'special feature' onlt Cadillac owners were 'treated' to
All you will need to keep the steering wheel controls is to make sure you buy a mainline deck that comes with a remote control. Then you can get an adaptor from a number of companies like PAC: http://www.go2pac.com/products/swi.htm
Any competent dealer can get one. Staub sells them.

yes just follow the same rules that you would if you were setting up a steering wheel controls. remember this is not a job for a completely inexperienced person. but if you nifty with a multi meter and handy with a soldering gun/pen, then this could be a piece of cake. it's a commom sense job, but only if your inclined somewhat. good luck. tell us how it turns out
