want subs but only have 2 pre-outs?

hi all, was out to my local shop today and the salesman expressed conern over my two preouts ???? it was my understanding that subs will work fine with this setup?? he said that even with an amp with bass contorl it is not a good idea??? tried to sell me a new cd player - the one i have isnt even a year old???

whats the deal? do i need a new player with a sub out or will running it off the rear do fine???

thanks for your help!

Use the crossover that is built into the amp you have. It's job is to limit the range of frequencies that the sub plays. In most cases but not all it is now redundent as some cd players now have them built in. Most but not all times though, the crossover built into the amp is superior.

As far as what you need though, buy an amp that includes a sub level control, problem solved. You can always upgrade your cd player down the road to gain the 3rd (subwoofer) preout.
