I like to crimp everything or vise it because its strong enough , when i have time for high power systems i would solder the connection and heat shrink . Most of your gear is inside the car and normaly doesnt come loose but if its outside i would say solder it. Every one does it different and there isnt realy a right or wrong . Its just your style some people will apreciate it some ppl wont

 

i would solder Unless theirs a screw down but sometime i will do all with solder with heat shrink and zap straps

 

ive done both worlds at the same time. You can buy ring terminals that have cup on the end for the wire and u drop a round piece of soder in it and heat it up. When its liquid you stick the wire in and good to go. No mess for me, you dont want to see me soder something.

 

Actually soldering has more resistance in the connection than crimping. In the airplane industry, they do not use any soldered connections. Soldering is best but in the real world, customers only get what they pay for. Also one thing to keep in mind, crimping only is effective when using the proper crimping tool for the correct gauge of wire.

 

^ That is absolutely true..... and it reflects in sonically too.

 

A crimp has to be tight to be effective,but done right better than solder imo!
