Wiring Question - Overkill?
My Setup:
Clarion DPX100.2 Two Channel Amplifier
For my Two 10" Type S 2Ohm Sub woofers
Pioneer GM-X364 Four Channel Amplifier
For the speakers
For the Clarion amp i have a 5ga wire running from the battery and 5ga grounds.
For the Pioneer amp i have a 8ga wire running from the battery and 8ga grounds.
these are two separate wires running from the positive node from the battery.
But i was told that the 8ga wiring is used for amps around 600 Watts, and isn't necessary for my amplifier and should instead switch to 10ga.
There for it would also save my alternator because if my setup is pulling more than 1300 watts rms that i would have to get an high output alternator.
Anyone know if this is true?
And wouldn't 10ga but a little thin for a 300 watt amp ?
It's going into a Honda Del Sol, so the distance from the battery to the amp is no more than 8 ft ? i'm guessing.
Thanks

You would probably be better off running one length of 4 gauge from the battery to the back and then 8 gauge from a distribution block. No need to have two separate runs of wire from the battery with those amps. And 8 gauge is not overkill.. rule of thumb in car audio is nothing is overkill

Your wiring is not overkill.
Try it, and you car will tell you if your electrical system is up to the task. If your headlights dim and you are experiencing serious voltage drop, you'll need to add a bettery or high output alt. I assume you've upgraded your big 3?
