Unhappy Kaption flat 10 and overkill pg rsd 1200.1 help please

Ok short and simple I have a kaption flat 10 250 rms 500 peak... Had it hooked up to a cheap pos wallmart amp 500x2 channel it pounded hard well as good as anyone can expect from anything short of a jl shallow mount now I picked up a new pheonix gold rss 1200.1 and honestly it seems held back it's in a custom sealed box exactly .5 cubic feet which it what's required fir the sub. I have a single cab Dakota not much room.... Now for the amp settings it's set at appromitly 75-90 hz..im pretty sure I'm closly matched to my stereos output as I have actually set the sub to full rear and began turning up the boost as there is no gain **** hopeing to find my lost poundage and epic fail it starts to distort never really getting any deeper please help me I'm almost possitive I've got the amp adjusted wrong I mean what else could it be 1200 watts if I want to let the dogs bite this thing and it isn't doing what it used too off a 500 watt amp I'm gonna put my 500 watt bak in a couple days to see if I'm just retarted and just hearing things please help......
Oh it's a sealed box not ported
