74 Javelin Racecar

Ok we took the car out on saturday for the first time. Things we going not to bad. With it being new we were just doing some easy runs to make sure everything was workin. Now the first run was a 12.40s at 148km/h the tires were just spinning for the first 300 ft and then when it did work it pulled the front wheels off the ground when i shifted into 2nd gear. Then I let off the gas at the 1000ft mark and coasted. So lets do some tire pressure changes so we are now down to 10lbs in the rear tires. So here we go this time i do a little bit of a burn out. take off again and this time still more tire spin but not as long. power down all the way to the 1000ft mark and coast to finish again just makin sure everything is working. The time was 10.6s at 191km/h still things not working right. The track wasnt good enough to hold the power i was leaving off of 2000rpm when I should be like 4800rpm. But as i am coming down the return road after the run the car dies(my fault i shut off the fuel pump) So the pretty much stalls but shut the ignition off so it wouldn't. But when I hit the starter to start it after that nothing just the starter spinning up with the engine not even cranking over. So we tow it back to the pits and find the starter wire came lose to so we tighten it and we think ok it will work. but nope it was messed up day over. so we take it home pull off the starting thinking it was broken. but nope it had somehow broke the teeth off of the fly wheel so thats why it was just spinnin. so we have learned something dont use $500 flywheels when you should be using $1000 ones oh well just take the motor out take the old one off put the new on motor back in easy fix. I will get pics of it and the car. but as best we can figure once it is working right with the small carborater on the engine it should go 9.4s at like 240+ not sure on the km/p and with the big carborater setup should be 8.9's oh ya.

So....motor, tranny, rear-end suspension. Whatcha got dude.

Need details.

As for me, can't afford power, but I got to drive my friend's, dad's 01 Lightning. 330 (5.4) JDM top and bottom end, Whipple supercharger, chipped, B&M shift kit. Homemade ladder bars (6 feet long with poly bushings) Stock driveshaft, stock axel housing, Currie gears, stock ratio. Some fancy diff cover, I don't remember what it is....oh yea, it's also got ceramic coated headers as well as an electric water pump and electric fans, Eibach springs and adjustable shocks in the rear.....probably some other things I missed too....but bottom line is 735Hp at the crank and 585 at the wheels....Torque was also pretty close to those numbers as well 582 at the wheels.....and there's only 20-30 HP difference between 1700 RPM and 4500.....it's got a nice flat torque and Power curve.

She goes her own way but you can bring her back nicely and without wetting yer pants, get's rubber from every gear(stock...Goodyear 295/45/18) Nitto 555R's are on order and I would estimate mid 10's out of it. Oh yea, that's all on 94 Octane.

Anyway, cool looking car dude, I'd love to see some burnout pics lol.

The motor is a 468 cu in big block chevy putting out around 850-900hp at the wheels.

The transmission is a turbo 400 reverse pattern. So that means reverse is at the top then park, neutral, 1, 2 and 3 it is a safety thing so you cant go into reverse and blow everything up while you are going. now it is an automatic but you have to put it into gear. So i shift at 6600rpm we could shift a little higher but we are just learning the car and what it likes.

The rear end is a norrowed 9" ford (they are easy to change). It has a 4.54 gear in it. With adjustable coil overs with a 4 link and sway/track bar.

I will get some pics my camera is a big piece of a crap. and yes it does look ugly right now i have only put primmer on it we havent descided on a colour

Holy, 6600 before you shift.....that's some pretty serious revs on a big block....surely the power band starts in the lower RPM's why such high revs before you shift?

Have you dyno'd the motor? Where does the power start?

What's the stall on that motor?

LOL, sorry dude, don't give away all yer secrets...I'm just nosy.

One last one though....How does the car breath? Forced or Naturally?

THe Lightning is superchaged in it's stock form and it now wears the ONLY supercharger Whipple has shipped to Canada...Pretty cool.

So, you shift with a ratchet shifter?

we shift that high b/c that is where the power is. it isnt like a street engine where all the power is below 4000. 6600 is right in the middle we could shift anywhere from 6000-7200 and do that all day with no problems.

as for the stall we have a 4500 stall bolt together converter
9" Bolt Together race Custom $1,599.00 from Neal Chance

here is the link for the shifter

we use a carb. no supercharger or NOS on this. it is all motor for this year atleast.

http://www.holley.com/0-80673.asp this is dominator we use.

hmmm, sounds like there's some money in that motor.

Run pump gas or Meth?

it's cool to see the stuff people build up...I'm looking at doing up a budget Fox Mustang, simply because the parts are easy to get and fairly cheap....I finally convinced my girlfriend that horsepower IS in fact cool when I took her out in the Lightning so she want's to help with a mustang.

What class would you be in at a sanctioned event like IHRA or something like that?
