Belak only got 8 games because the player was not injured the play. what happens if that player turns out to be another Brian Berard? or worse? then does belak get more??

Belak didn't even hurt the guy, that's no excuse, but think of it this was, that homo Hossa basically took out Berards eye, that was unintentional, way worse, and did he even get suspended? I can't even remember, if he did, I know it wasn't anywhere near 8 games.
***Edit*** I also forgot about that gutless move by another Ottawa Senator, Havlat. He friggin cross checked Recchi in the FACE on PURPOSE, and if it wasn't for the visor would've surely broken bones in his face. What the hell did he get? 2 friggin games? That was a joke for sure. He was also a repeat offender, don't forgot how he KICKED a guy earlier in the season.
And Belak gets 8? Just think of the two incidents I just mentioned, intentional (Havlat)and unintentional (Hossa) and think of the damage they did, and the punishment they got, before commenting on Belak. Sure he should be suspended, but 8 games? That's a JOKE. </font>
I will start by saying that Johnny you have to start watching hockey more if you believe what you are saying?
Or you have "I live in ontario syndrome, and we are the center of the world so who cares about anything else"
To say that Belak didnt do it intentional means nothing. He still has to have contol of his stick and actions. What Belak did whats reckless disregard for his stick.
As far as Havlat, It wasnt a crosscheck at all! .. from the replay it looks more like a butt end( same situation as belak, it was a reckless use of a stick.)
Messiers suspension was a mercy call from the NHL because he only has 6 games left in his career and nobody want to see Mess go out like that!
Although when hossa hit Berard with his stick it was on a follow through from a clearing attempt. In his case i was a complete accident because he was moving the puck.
Point is Suspension are a joke and these million dollar playboys need to realize it is a pleasure to play in the NHL and they need to have the attitude they did at the age of 12. Dreaming to be in the NHL because they love it, not cause of the cash!

I think Belak got plenty for the hit. I think it is a big loss for the team as he is the only good tough guy right now for the Leafs, Domi isn't much of a fighter anymore and Perrot hasn't been in the game lineup.
I think Messier didn't get more games BECAUSE he will probably retire the end of this season, and they wanted to allow him a chance to play the final home game in New York. Makes sense after what this guy has done for the game ..

I think Belak's susp is too harsh. 3-4 games tops.
But, I also think it was intentional. A lot of guys do it that way today. They know were the opponents at, they deliberately look the other way when swinging their stick out of control at them. Watch for it.

First off, you don't need to be looking directly at someone to know where they are. Belak knew exactly where he was. If he had no clue about a guy standing 2 feet away from him then he has no business being an NHL player.
Next, you have to remember that these guys are on their skates for a living. To say that he can't control his stick when he's on the ice is horse ****. He has 100 times more skill than any of us, and damn well knows how to control himself on the ice.
And you can tell us about your 12 years of hockey experience all you want. I'm sure it doesn't impress too many of us. Just like my 20 years of playing, 8 years of refereeing (level 3), and 4 years of coaching don't impress you.
