can someone explain.....(home audio)

how to use an amp in a home audio application......have a sub I want to use.

I have a reciever that only has an output for a powered sub.....can I utilize it to work with a car audio amp?

Or is it not possible and I should just be buying a plate amp to run the sub.

Reason I'm asking is because I can get a hold of a small car amp cheaper and more easier then a plate amp.

You can do it, for sure. It will require an AC-DC converter (for power, obviously). DC-AC converters are everywhere, but the opposite variant is not so common. Plus, if it is a home audio sub you are planning to drive, you will want to check the impedance, as home audio speakers are typically in the 6-8 Ohm range, very much limiting the output.

I've had three 450W power supplies run a 200rms RF amp before. Each power supply was around $15 on sale.
