I would like to install a p2p program on the work pc, and I think the firewall is interfering with my attempts. The program tells me to configure the soks5 on the firewall. Where do i find this setting on windows 98? hope this is enough info...
thanks in advance!

chances are that you're not going to be able to bypass the firewall. what you could try doing is set it to use port 80 (http) port.

I wouldn't recommend using a P2P app at work though. There's a reason why it's not working, and perhaps you should be

Well you could do a search for free socks5 proxies. Here is a link that might help

http://www.atomintersoft.com/product...y/socks5-list/

However your IT Admin probably has most ports blocked so it will be tough for you to get it working but it can be done. What you will need is a port forwarder on an external box, usually done through your home computer that forwards traffice from your work pc to your home then out to the internet. So basically if you are allowed port 8080 (because its a http protocol as well) you could take that and redirect all port 8080 communication to to where you want on which port you want. So in essence you have created a proxy server at your home. I do not recommend this as most IT Admins (if they have half a brain) will have a monitoring system in place and will see that you are always connecting from work to your home. Now if you have a good reason for this you are ok but sometimes hard to give a reason if you are trying to be covert

ok, thanks for the advice.
no need to be covert, as long as I dont chew up bandwidth, and don't download spyware.
Appreciate your help!
