I'm all up for helping friends but after awhile it gets to be a little to much, and when you do it free for someone and someone else hears then they complain that it should be free for them too. This situation is a bit different however.

And as far as loosing money for doing something to help out a friend,well,I guess I need to start billing my friends and their friends for everything I do....If thats the way its supposed to be anyway....New concept in my opinion...

there is a reason why people goto school for this and spend time learning it.. and it's not to do stuff for free..

Besides,Chris,I never said it would be free...I did say that she would likely show her gratitude in the best way she can(ie:cook supper,toss a couple bucks in that persons way(if she has it)
I wish people would stop being so worried about how much money they can make and start thinking about how much good they can do for the world...The worlds going to hell in hand basket and it seems that all people can be concerned about is what or how much money is it for them....
Smarten up people!!!! </font>
Wow, I don't think I've been this pissed off at someones post on here in a LONG time.I should do PC work for free? Was my college education free? Were the 4 PC's that I have at home to learn this stuff free?
Would I ever come to your place of business and ask you to do something for me for free?
HELL NO.
I get PAID to fix computers. It's what I do. I don't see why I should be expected to do it for free just because someone needs a hand.
If you think I'm being a jerk because of it then you can just kiss my butt. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars getting to where I am. Just because you choose to not know anything about computers doesn't make me a bad guy.

</font>
I agree with JordyO on this one. Though in other circumstances why should someone do it for free who paid to have everything they do? (Education, equipment) Like I said some people do it for a living, if you can't afford a computer and know nothing about them and are unwilling to learn one way or another, you shouldn't have one. (IMO) Life isn't free, the air you breathe technically speaking isn't free unless of course your of the homeless. Sure once in awhile helping a friend is no problem. But if its a costly upgrade or what not there has to be some form of $$ involved.In some cases you fix your friends computer for free, and they turn around and tell a friend and they ask you to fix their friends for free cause oh hey you had no problem doing it for them why not their friend? And the cycle continues.

I've never asked people do stuff for free either, but I've never had to say " HEY IF YOU DO THIS I WILL PAY YOU" it's just comes natural someone gives you a hand pay them back according to what they did for ya, I see it more as a surprise and meaningful if they say "Hey thanks for the hand here's XX$$" Now if it was someone I didn't know that would involve me driving somewhere to fix something I would say "Sure give me XX$$ I will help ya out". True nothing in life is free but it also doesn't kill to lend a hand here or there for free, not everyone goes the Dutch route these days.
