I had a plastic spoon do that once, melted itself all the way around the element and hardend before I noticed, stunk up the kitchen for days. I had to get out the dremmel to cut it off the element.

 

This happened at like 1pm and I just got home and my whole house still smells like weenie roast...Hope the landlord doesnt say anything....

Geez...Who'd a thought something like that could happen with all that water splashing around in there....

The dang thing got so hot, there were glowing embers on the spoon when I pulled it out.I gave it a couple puffs to try and blow it out and it got brighter...

Crazy I tell ya..

 

IT's on the drying phase ain't it.

The element heats up to dry the dishes.

On most dishwashers you can select hot or cold dry.

just out of curiosity...why do you enjoy telling us of all the pitfalls and dumba$$ moves that you make all the time?!?! is your life really so uneventful that all you can talk about is the bad stuff?

Good thing you caught it. The dishwasher must have been dry inside, otherwise the water would have cooled the spoon, and it never would have caught fire. are there any wire mesh guards you can install?

 

my apolo"geez" aaron, that might have been a little harsh...no hard feelings buddy. as long as you are safe and no one was hurt in the charring incident then all is well. maybe i'll buy you a beer on sat. to make up for the harsh words...we'll see.
