Cracked Winshield

Hey Folks

About 2 days ago, i noticed a small like 2" crack coming outta the drivers edge of the winshield, thought it was a pine needle for the longest time, but it's a crack.
Yesterday on my way home, i noticed a 3" crack coming outta the bottom of the winshield.
This morning, the crack at the bottom, b-lined it about 18" accross the winshield, going down a time or two again to the bottom.

I've never even had a chip in a winshield over 6 or 7 years of driving before this, so....

None the less. How do i know when it's time to replace the winshield. Sure I guess a crack means it's time, but I'm poor. I see lots of people driving with cracked winshields....and granted it looks silly, maybe they're poor too? Do i have to get it replaced ASAP or how's that work?

Likewise, what am i likely to pay for a replacement winshield on a 94 grand cherokee?

bah, you can probably drive it like that forever, but for a safety if the crack is in the line of sight or path of the wipers, it's gotta be replaced....sux

IMO do NOT replace it till

A) cops tell you to.

B) Spring is here and gravel from the street has been cleaned, winters coming, you slap a new winshield in your ride, I bet you it gets cracked before January hits.

we go through a winshield per work truck in the winter, a few times by the time spring hits they are annoying to drive with but the boss is cheap, and doesn't want to replace them till the rocks are cleaned up.

And I don't know pricing in Alberta, but theres a company around here that does most winsheilds for 149-169.
