Question

Ive bought a few things off ebay in the past but I've shy'd away for some time, for a few reasons....

Ive got raped with tax/brokerage on some car audio equipment purchased from sellers in the USA.... I also bought a pair of subs that turned out to be blown, and a laptop battery that was NFG.... In such cases you might get a refund but you loose your shipping costs...

Recently I bought a watch that was listed as being 'excellent condition'... turned out to have a nice scratch on the face... ($250 dollar watch, paid less then 1/3 of that total so I guess I still didn't loose)

I also just bought some toys for my little guy for Xmas.... thinking about buying a digi-cam but Iam not sure.... Ive also been perusing the car audio stuff and have seen some nice equipment go for cheap cheap !!

Seems like alot of used electronics goes for more then they it's worth though.... especially stuff that's as is ??? whats up with that ???

Anyway... just wondering if anyone on here feels one way or the other about shopping on ebay ?

Anyone ever able to sell their stuff and get a decent buck for it ??

well ive sold a few things. planing on selling a bunch of stuff next week. i dont expect to make more then i would in a yard sale.

buying heavy stuff on ebay i find is a waste due to the crazy border fees. movies, tv series , stuff like that i buy because you can usualy save a few bucks.

i like ebay but you realy have to read the description of the item fully . and i try to always buy stuff rom peopel with at least 10 positive feedback.

some peopel love it some hate it.

i personaly like the deals you can get. i just find most people over charge for shipping.

A few simple tips for buying on eBay:

- Don't bid on anything without first contacting the seller with a specific question (e.g. "does this item have any scratches") and receiving an intelligent response.

- Look beyond the seller's feedback number. Is the majority of feedback from sales or purchases? What other items has the seller sucessfully sold? Take the time to read recent comments; often recognizing what wasn't said can be the most telling.

- Make sure that the seller willing to double-box the item if it's fragile.

- If you live near the border, have it shipped to the States, drive over, and declare it yourself.

- If you must have something shipped to Canada, insist on USPS (not UPS) to avoid crazy brokerage and cross-border handling fees.

- Consider the true cost of purchasing on eBay. Often it's cheaper to buy locally after you factor in all the added costs, the lack of warranty/service/support, and the risk of being ripped of. Support your local businesses!

I myself have only had one bad seller and I didn't loose much ($20) the seller was promptly booted off of e-bay as a result of ripping off a bunch of people.
but I have made quite a few purchaces and other than that one never been dissapointed....do your reserch before you buy is my advice.
Check this out for the little woman for x-mas.

I buy and sell on Ebay quite frequently.

Bryan stated a few good things to watch for.
-Always read everything in the add and clarify if something is not stated.
-Be wary of people with little feedback both buying and selling.
-I have never had a problem in ~40-50 times using Ebay but there's always someone looking to scam you (almost all of my auctions I have someone contact me and I know it is a scam) so you just need to weed them out.

I sent you a PM.

O.K. now for the real reason EBAY sucks

There is 2 sites - www.ebay.com and www.ebay.ca

Why is it that it will allow you to ship stuff around in canada that never leaves canada, in U.S. funds - and the shipping in U.S. funds also.

Why dont thay hard set the program to only canadian money in the .ca site and U.S. funds in the .com site.

I see lots of stuff I'd be interested in but not converting ect.... and paying some dude a few hr's up the road, thats in canada in foreign currency ~ makes no sence

Something look like good deals and the time you convert the item and shipping cost from canada to U.S funds, its usually more then it is to buy the item local.

The seller picks what currency they want to sell and be billed in. If it is a Canadian seller who will only sell to this country then they obviously will post in Canadian funds. If they are willing to sell to U.S. citizens also then just post it in U.S. funds as each buyer has the option to view in Canadian or U.S. funds anyways by having Ebay show you the funds of your choice when searching. It is one of the options when signing up for Ebay in the first place so there is no "currency conversion" needed to be done in your head when searching.

Personally I just deal all in U.S. funds. Keeps everything simple.
