first time snowboarding... any tips?

My tip is, don't eat yellow snow. jokes I've never been.
Someone give Jordy some tips, because my rookie snowboarding buddy damn near broke his jaw trying to learn last weekend. Just get drunk so you can't feel the pain.

if you fall, punch the snow, don't hit the ground with your hands open, great way to tear up your wrist.
also, get a board with the bindings in a neutral stance, that way you can find out your riding style, regular or goofy foot. (left foot forward or right foot forward).
oh, and stay away from moguls, they're hell if you've never been on a board before.

Punch the snow? That sounds like a good way to break an arm, wrist or dislocate a shoulder. Not reccomended. Stick to the bunny hill for a bit. Work on sliding all the way down on 1 edge first. Then try the other.
Once you have your edges figured out, try linking turns together. Don't be suprised if you don't get off the bunny hill in one day. For some snowboarding is quite a bit harder to pick up than skiing.
I will tell you this. You will be brused and beaten by the end of the day. You will find muscles you didn't know you had. You will feel like you never want to do this sport ever again. Sounds bad doesn't it? After all that is gone, you will start to have a blast and realize everything you went through it worth it.

Try not to fall
Keep your arms and chest kinda like a bow & arrow (saw this on tv when someone was being taught) knees bent and if you feel like your gonnna fall slowly lean back.
If you wanna find out before hand what foot you are stand straight get someoen to gently push you and whichever foot goes forward is the foot you are.
Like others said, stick to one edge for a start. Take her slow don't try and be all prostar if you think you may be getting it right away. And yes Stay Away From The MOGULS lol And the half pipe.
As Fat said, you may seem like you hate it and never wanna do it again but in the end it'll be worth it

Well I'm not going for a whole day, it's just a bit of night skiing. (boarding?!)
I'll probably only be on the hill for 3-4 hours. Which is fine for me!
Thanks for the advice everyone. I just hope I come home in one piece!
If anyone else has tips feel free to share!
