first time snowboarding... any tips?
ahh yes...the first tim....
dont go on a really big steep hll your first time, even if someone dares you...(my mistake), its amazing how much you can tumble down that big hill at COP if you dont know what your doing.
Make sure you have time to rest the next day.....
agree with using fist instead of palm, trust me on that 1....
dont be afraid to lean forward, your going downhill, my biggest mistake, i was trying to stay standing up level and kept falling back or getting into some serious wipe-outs.
Everyone I know sucks there first time.....dont be suprised if it takes you a few weeks.

If you have a pair of hockey pants, wear them. You may get laughed at, but at the end of the day, your tailbone will thank you. Thats how my dad learned to snowboard when he was 45.

have fun!
Video tape yourself as possible so we can have a chuckle.
First time i went boarding, no one told me anything i just switched equipment with buddy and he took me down a fairly steep run under the chair lift, doh. Got tiring getting up so much. But all in all it's not overly hard (not that i mastered it or anything) but similar to skateboarding or what not if you've done those. Just gotta use your edges and put some faith in yourself.

Learn to fall on your butt, it's way easier than falling on your face. Keep your downhill edge up. IF it goes down, so do you. Like Shaughn said make fists, less likely to do any damage to your wrist that way. Go limp if you fall. Have fun. Learning to snowboard is pretty much the easiest out of any of the board sports IMO. I was turning and stopping with half an hour of strapping one on. And getting some pretty big air the next day. Of course I had been skateboarding for 8 years so that might have helped me.
Hehe... sorry I didn't report back in last night. Didn't get home until a bit after 11 and just went straight to bed.
Well, the good news is that I survived!!
Actually I didn't do too badly. We just stayed on the "learners" type of hill so we didn't get ourselves killed and didn't get in anyone elses way.
I've got a bit of a sore butt and one of my knees is bruised because I fell on it.
We ended up getting lost a bit on the way to the hill so our 3-4 hours ended up being about 2. Near the end I was turning fairly well and able to stop. (kind of) I even made it down a few times without falling.
Pretty fun though and my buddy & I are planning on going back.
Thanks for the help everyone!
