J.B. Goodhue keep their comfort better than the Cats, and will still hold up pretty good. They are not quite as expensive either.

try crown army surplus, or things military, they should have combat boots, but from my experiences they arent too comfortable, i personally want the rockfibre kodiaks (i think they are kodiaks anyhow) just for the winter, nothing sucks worse then your steel toes turning your boots into freezers when its -30 and u are walking thru someones snow filled backyard to leave a package out of sigh......

I have cats they are well worth the $$$

Previously I worked landscaping- (Lawnirrigation) which involved a lot of digging - or kicking a shovel. I would wear through the soles of an average boot in about 3 months.
Kodiak - 4 months
Work Pro - 2 months
A Marks work warehouse brand - 3 months (I forget the actual boot name)
Caterpillar - 6 months when I stopped that job and they look like they have at least 2 more months in them.

On thing I will saw about Cats is the rubber compound for the sole is VERY stiff. This prolongs the life of the sole, but makes for crap traction on slick surfaces.

I had the opposite experience than Gilligan. The first 2-3 weeks were uncomfortable in my Cats, after that they were very comfortable. They actually are the most comfortable piece of foot ware I have.

Oh yeah, I also have Cat sandals - killer strong (with the exception of the heel strap)

Might just depend on what Cats you buy. I tried to different styles, both were uncomfortable after abit. I was standing/walking/running on steel & concrete for 12hrs a day though.

What maltese said about the soles I found to be true on both types I tried.

I perfer a good solid sole.I find when I wear shoes/boots that have a softer sole,I get back,leg and foot problems.Sometimes I can't even walk after I get home..Real bad!

I'm going to look into Red Wing's next week, but from what everyone tells me here,I'm thinking I'm going to spend the money*sigh*and buy the pricey Cats....

Its alot of money for me right now,but at the same time I can at afford to loose my ability to walk either.

You should see the shoes I'm wearing right now...LOL...The toe is completly worn out,the heel is split around the akeelize(sp?)tendon),bu they still have a alot of tread are possible the most comfy shoes I have...

But for work I need to keep a certain appearence as I work with the public...

Oh well.....Keep the ideas and input coming...

Have you looked into Harley Davidson boots. I have had a pair for almost four years now and I wear/wore them everywhere, doing eveything,,and they still look new. If I remember, they didn't cost much more, if at all, than Cat boots, which I also had a few pairs of and will not go back after buying the Harley's. Thy are surprisingly comfortable as well.
