Hurricane Katrina
My sister/cousin (she's my cousin, I call her that 'cause she lived with us) lives in New Orleans, and we haven't heard from her... Hopefully, she's just being dumb and not thinking to call but................... *gulp*
Specifically, she lives in Kenner, which looks like it's a subdivision. See http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...te=LA&zipcode=
We've been talking to the Candian Consulate down there and I've been searching the missing persons lists... Nothing yet
Teresa (Teri) Ann Perenac (Billingsley) please call home!

New Orleans knew well in advance that the storm was coming. They knew there was a potential for disaster. They knew their city was mostly under sea level which, if the levy broke (which was predicted), could make things really bad.
The smart one's left the city. The rest, while being interviewed by reporters and when asked why they were staying when the chances of death/destruction was so high stated "Oh, it's just a storm" and "Oh we'll be fine. We're staying". And now these are the same people who are yelling on rooftops for people to risk their lives to save them and wondering why no one is coming. And now when reporter's ask them why they stayed they say it was a bad decision to stay and that in the future they will leave if a sunshower is forcasted.
Dare I say this is Natural Selection and Mother Nature's way of strenthening the gene pool?
I mean if someone is walking up your street with an assault rifle shooting people would you sit on your driveway waiting saying "Oh, it's just a guy shooting people. We'll be fine" or would you get up and go?
There was a report in the Star a couple days ago regarding a man who died because he was oxygen dependent and ran out of oxygen because he stayed in New Orleans. A smart person would realize that if your life depended on something such as insulin or oxygen and you were told that services may be interupted with the storm if you stayed in your location then you would go to a safe location right?

u know whats funny, that bush dished out $100 mil woth of supplies to the countries that got hit by tsunami half the world away, yet they are letting their own ppl die from lack of food and medical care like 200 miles away from the white house.
why are the sending ppl with guns in there instead of sending ppl with food and medical supplies?
ofcourse ppl are going to loot to support themselves, no food, no power and no medicine........where else are they going to get what they need when they need it??? i blame lack of response and preparation on governemt's behalf for all the looting thats taking place.
people that did not leave simply had no where to go....they have little to absolutely no money (if you had ever been to the Calliope housing division in New Orleans you'd see for yourself). these people can barely afford to eat....there is no way they can afford to move somewhere. their only choice would literaly be to walk along the highway in some direction.....

Yeah I agree....
I find it amazing that the US can afford to send 100's of 1000's of troops over seas with guns, machinery, and even big screen TV's...BUT they can't afford to send in full force rescue crews to bring these people to safety...
This is one time I am ashamed to say I'm an american citizen..
We are paying a bit more at the pump...but remember, people are paying with their lives due to the hurricane....I realized this this morning watching the news....
We are indeed a very lucky country....Be thankful..

Sorry for posting again so soon but I think this needs to be said....
I just watched a live feed of Bush being consulted on the resuce efforts...He spent most of that time looking around at other things...
When he did speak, he spoke of "we're going to save lives"..."We're going to help with the clean up"..."12 billion dollars.."...
But never once did he turn to anyone and say"Now...with that said....WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN?"
I was thinking to myself that they should send in full force ground troops(army,marines,etc)...but then it hit me that their all over seas right now....
