I look under my dash and I found this is where the smell is comming from ... but I don't see wires that look melted well not that I could get 100% look but what could cause this? I noticed it only happens when I start the car and nothing else.. I know Gm did recall on previous year models due to High current and the wire would/could melt if ur car didn't start and you let it just crank over so they installed a relay to preven the high current from melting down the wires... Any of you Mechs out there heard of this? It's almost like electrical smells of sorts....
I got this recall done. The idea is that if you are to hold the key in the start position for a long period then the wires could heat up and cause a fire. I don't think this is your problem though.
squeek squeek.......hmmmmmm

they are just bulletins, there is no recalls yet for the 2003 model year(in their database)
there may be recalls that you may need to check with gm, you just need to give them your vin#.

I know your problem. I've had the exact same thing happen to my old car. It's actually a pretty easy fix so don't sweat it. However, if you don't fix it right away, you are in for YEARS of problems...one after another. Now...follow these instructions EXACTLY as I say....go buy a Dodge.

All Fixed they found melted wires at the rear defroster? Yet the smell was comming from under the dash?? So I assume they meant at the panel where the button is, either way it's all fixed...
