Sorry society has brainwashed everyone into figuring they should get a deal on Cars, homes and electronics..
in response to this... i actually think, that salesmen have caused this, not society, if i go into a store and i see something i want, but its more then i have at the time and i tell a salesman i actually cant afford it right now, and he says gimme a second. goes to his computer and comes back and says ok, if u take this right now ill knock the price down this much how is that a societal thing? he wants a sale, he doesnt want me to come in next weekend when i can afford full price and have the commision go to one of his co workers..

this is exactly how i got JL 6x9s just after they came out for like half price, i didnt ask, i just said i didnt have the cash and id have to think about it, im sure others have had the same experiences

even realtors will be surprised if someone offers list price on a house first time, i saw a show about it on like dr phil, realtors expect u to make an offer lower then what the owner is asking, just as the owner is asking 20k$ more then they expect to get,

The problem with all of this is that we've become very dishonest as a society *jumps up on a soap box* we've gotten to the point that we refuse to trust anyone that what they are selling is worth what they're asking, and we're not willing to give the other person a fair deal when we're selling, we assume that the other person isn't going to accept our price, so we jack it up. the easiest home sale I've ever heard of was when my parents sold their last home to an older order mennonite, they walked it, looked around, asked how much we were asking, my parents told them, and they said "ok" that was the whole deal. when my parents asked him about it he said

"I'm an honest man, so I don't want to pay less than this house is worth, and you're an honest man, so I trust you to not ask me to pay more than it's worth" makes you think doesn't it?

YES shops can charge less, but what they pay for the product doesn't really matter, it's the VALUE of the product, beyond that, they have a lot of other costs, like the salesman's wages and commission, the costs to keep up the store, IE rent, heating, electricity, phone, Air conditioning (cause we know you'd complain if you walked into a non-air condidioned shop in the summer) web site fees, water. just because they pay $150 for the deck doesn't mean you should be able ot have it for $151, because then they have lost a LOT of money.

I have NO problem with allowing a store to make money on my purchase, because I want them to be there the next time. If they "make" $150 on a sale, I know that that money pays the rent, the hydro, and pays for the salesman to be there next time I'm in asking for service. People who act like they're God's gift to a store and they should get a discount REALLY **** me off, if someone offers me a discount, great, I'll take it, but I'm not going to push.

Who do people think they are demanding a discount? honestly, if someone was demanding a discount from me, they'd never get one, and if I lost the business, GREAT!! another jerk who isn't going to come back and waste my time.

I work at Future Shop in Kitchener Ontario and I've punched some of the sales assocciates there for telling customers lies and after the customer comes back and asks me if it's true, I won't lie and the customer go up and returns it. I've worked in the indepentent store before and what I found is that a lot of customers that don't know anything to a little something will ask me to sell them on something and then ask me to lower the price on it and I will. Then they walk, and "think about it". I'll come in to work a few days later and see the same customer dealing with another sales associate that gave him a fews bucks lower than I did and they didn't do anything but lower the price $10.

Thats my commission you ignorant customer. You save yourself $10 after all the product knowledge you got from me bich! You save ten dollars and I'll give you the treatment you deserve next time you come in and you go see the sales guy you like so much doesn't know anything, and he comes to me for answers. Bottom line, if you have been educated by one guy and buy from someone else with less knowledge, you'll know that you will be by yourself next time you ask a question.

P.S.
Thats great that your mom has such great mark up and I'll admit that on accessories we get our money, but on product(any shop)there is very little mark up. I bought a deck on staff purchase and less than 2 months later my deck was less for the customer to purchase. So unless you are involved in a audio/video retail aspect don't lecture other people about mark up.

at the same time tell me that power wire costs u 4.50 a foot and ur sellin for 5,

obviously, companies are still makin money when they allow their salespeople to cut the price on the spot,
basically, the deal i got the guy matched the tag price for the same deck at futureshop,

ill stand by my shopping habits, i almost had a panasonic touch screen yesterday for half price, if u want to fault me for trying to save money so i can spend it on other gear thats fine, but dont try to get all highroad about it, not everyone has the budget that u might have, like i said, u dont like dealing with bargain hunting customers, mcdonalds if hiring, u still get a job in service but the prices are set in stone, cus ive yet to see the fry guy offer a discount to keep a customer from goin to wendys, sorry, but your co workers/counterparts have turned most of the car audio business into a garage sale environment, "oh joe offered u this? ill throw in RCAs, for free if u buy it now" damn straight imma take FULL advantage, and if u think u would do otherwise.... i doubt it, no one passes on a good deal or discounted price. all u guys in sales or formerly in, who still know people who are, u saying u dont go to your friends for a hookup? or use your employee discount for your gear? think about that, its the same thing

i use this analagy all the time but not directly to the customer
alot of people do not value service
most customers don't want to pay an estimate fee for repairs
i don't think they would work for free but they want me to
they come in explain the problem and expect me to be jojo's phyic hotline
oh ya she want out of business didn't she

bottom line people want you to give it away for free and stay in business they both don't work together
i would like to see most people who don't run a business that have it all figured out make a go of it
i bet they would't last
i've watched many of them come and go

just cus i take up a salesmans time to learn about some of the products out there and to decide if/what i want, doesnt mean im obligated to buy from him tho, and if u want cash for your advice/knowledge on different gear, and what deck has 2 preouts vs which has 3, talk to your company about having a cover charge, stock boys at safeway should get paid when a customer asks where they can find canned tomatoes in that case

Power wire is an accessory. It's usually marked up like hell.

Any grocery store employee will tell you were the tomatoes are, thats what they're paid to do, ask them what the contents, sizes, brands, and so on they won't know anything. If you want to know were the sub boxes are in the store I'll show you and walk away, because it seems to me that is what you want.
