Man the sattelite imagery is phenomenal.

It's my new favourite site.

Unfortunately it's not live images but I can see my truck at work from space.

How cool is that.

And if you search through the desert around Nevada the government hasn't blocked any images of Area 51 or anything so you can see massive holes in the ground from nuclear tests and all the buildings there and stuff.

Wild stuff..(at least I thought so)


And just in case you are curious what to search for to find Area 51.

Search for Rachel, Nevada and zoom out and look for a dried up lakebed and then goto satellite imagery and then zoom back in.

edit - for area 51 I'll try to give a more detailed way to find it.

Search for

1. Rachel Nevada
2. Click Sattelite Imagery
3. Scroll out slowly until you see a smallish white circle (dried up lakebed) on the middleleft hand side of the map.
4. Click that white circle so it's in the middle of your screen.
5. Scroll in closer and closer until you see the runway running off the lakebed and all the buildings

I tried your search for Area 51 though and couldn't find it

 

WTF? I cant get any satellite images anywhere. Not even big cities.

 

You sure you're doing it right?

Go to maps.google.com ... search for what ever it is you want to see.

Then click on the "Satelite" link on the right and you'll get the images.

I've found my own house in the middle of nowhere, so you should be able to find SOMETHING.

 

Oh, cool I found it. Thanks. It still doesnt zoom in very far. I cant remember where I was, but on another site you could zoom in a lot closer.
