I suppose it depends on the funds... but in general I would consider my statment correct....

Most of the mutual funds I have right now guareentee that I will not loose, but really only average a little more return then a long term savings account...

As you mentioned above, "it depends on the funds".
In a nutshell, mutual funds are just "groups" of stocks packaged together. And just like individual stocks there are low risk to high risk ones.

A good advisor will assess your risk tolerance with you & suggest funds that are appropriate.
