So my laser disc collection is still digitaly safe to hold on to as well,and i will never get rid of my copy of the warriors on beta!

Well, you'll still be able to watch all your old DVD's. The new DVD format will just hold more allowing for a better picture, audio, and more extras. But, your collection certainly won't be obsolete at all.
