Ok, I don't mean to be a jerk here, but all the people saying the sub will mess up your HD are completely wrong.

A magnet like that would ruin a floppy disk or some other flimsy media like that, but would never ruin your HD.

The sort of magnetic forces that are required to destroy a HD are insane.

We're talking those magnets that are used in wrecking yards to haul cars around type of insane.

It's a very common misconception but also very wrong.

(if you want I can go in to a detailed scientific reason as to why, but I'd rather not have to go back through my HW text books to find it!)
JERK!

I would be interested in knowing the reason why, but if it's gonna be a pain in the *** for you then don't bother
</font>
... thanks... ok, I'll go home and dig up that book and let you know.

btw... to anyone who thinks I'm talking out my butt... the read/write heads on a lot of HD's are actually controlled by magnets. So if there's one IN the drive, think about one that is outside of the case.

^^Yes, the read/writing is controlled by magnets, but the magnets inside are specifically placed in a certain position for a reason. A couple years ago I had a couple old 100mb hard drives and i was messing around with magnets, and I managed to bugger them up, but they were old any probably ready to die anyways.

I think you must ask yourself....do you want to risk it?

Specifically placed inside... but you think a sub outside being shielded by both the metal HD case and the metal PC case is going to cause problems??

I still want jordy to dig up the books and get the technical explanation for everyone heh, but it turns out i didn't have to put the sub on the pc. Had some extra room in the corner (to the side of the tv and front speakers). So the sub will sit there.
