It's nice to have the choice though. At least you're not forced to buy the add on drive.

To all those whining about the price, show me where you can get a Bluray player for the price of a PS3.

That's a great point, if you want a bluray player. Personally, I buy a console to play the games, not to watch movies. If I want a movie player I'd go buy a movie player. Especially at this point in time when there aren't all that many bluray or HD-DVD movies available and when one could possibly win over the other. By the time I buy a bluray player if I ever do it will probably be another year or so and by then a nice one will probably only cost 300-400 dollars. Which is why I'd rather not be forced into buying one right now when I buy a PS3. I hate watching movies on my consoles. I don't want to be putting more wear and tear on my already expensive and delicate machine.

Having said that, Best Buy has their bluray player on sale this week for 799 and a stand alone HD-DVD player for 399. So the prices are already being dropped quite a bit for sales and what not. I'd imagine in a year the normal prices will be down even more. SONY just wanted to throw bluray into their PS3's as a trojan horse to try and get more into people's houses. Normally I'd say oh well and not care. But, with the awesome success of Beta, Mini Disc, and UMD, I'd rather SONY keep their sweet formats to themselves from now on and not try and force people to have a format that most don't even want at the moment.

Good points, but hey thanks SONY for my blu-ray player/game console, my family and I really enjoy it....RIGHT NOW. If the format dies like Beta, etc, I don't care.

I have our 360 with hd-dvd add-on hooked up to our HD projector, and our PS3 hooked up to our HD bigscreen. Couldn't be happier with them all, I do all my gaming on the 360 at this point, my wife plays games/checks the weather etc on her Wii. We only use the PS3 for watchin' movies so far, actually mostly my daughter who happens to love Corpse Bride in blu-ray format. LOL

You don't like them or can't afford them, don't buy um.

Black Hawk Down on Blu-ray.
