Somehow I ended up with this very annoying link and animation on my desktop that has links to gambling, etc. I have run AVG, it found a trojan horse and seems to have cleared it, I ran ad-aware, and I ran spybot S&D. Still have this freaking thing on the desktop everytime I start my computer (Win 98). Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

restart your computer in safe-mode, and run all of teh anti-virus/spyware software that you have. It should be gone when you reboot agian.

Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and list the programs running ...
Go to Start > Run ... > MSCONFIG > Startup and list the programs checked ...

Hopefully, what's causing your problems will be in there as, if you know what it is, you can usually fix it ...

Thanks for the help. Never reformatted anything, have to look into doing that maybe, can't seem to kick this thing, even playing with MSCONFIG.
