Either way, they generally run hand in hand. I'd say 9 outta 10 times people that have virus's also have some spyware on there.
True but you can't use a spyware program to remove a virus can you?

The ratio imo would'a been taken from the illiterate group of computer owners who don't even know what spyware is. So it would be more understandable for 9 out of 10 people to have spyware on their computer because lately its hard to find a program you download without it and then some who are surfing webpages and an 'update' pops up they click yes assuming they need to. Eg, GAIN. I saw that on one of the commons computers yesterday in the school (not surprised), so I installed a adaware program and found 236 spyware related files in the system lol

What I dont understand is why good companies like Webshots and other ones allow spyware in their programs It deters people from using their software.

ya, but many people dont even care anymore......you get spyware from everything. but I agree about the crappy thing with symantec, once you turn off your system restore, you cannot go back any further than when you turned it off, because it deletes all it had saved.

Try to run a defragment and see if it gives you an error message....

i hhad symantec ie:norton on my system and found that it didn't do a good job of detecting viruses and trogans
running avg it caught and cleanly removed all viruses and trogans
so now norton is gone and i only use avg

www.grisoft.com
its freeware

yes and spyware removal tools will not remove viruses or trogans

both spyware and viruses can bring your computer to its knees

Another virus program next to norton is pc cillin. It works great as well for those who either don't like Norton or for some reason their system rejects Norton.

man, system restore is stupid, and unneccesary, just protect your computer in the first place - and do it right, get some virus software and set it on auto update, then get a simple popup blocker. and set up a guest account for those people you know are the stupid kind who always click yes on the first thing they see... oh and spybot picks up a lot of stuff adaware doesnt.

ive been running this computer for 2 years with no system restore and it still runs very well.

dont bother with firewalls either, just get a good router.

system restore is brutal sometimes, makes a big friggin mess of your registry if you backup too far - removing keys from the registry while still leaving files all over the place, not to mention after quite some time it uses a TON of storage space.

but for the average user i guess its a godsend at times.

NOTE: the disk cleanup utility deletes restore points under "compress old files" category, so if ya wanna keep your points, uncheck it during cleanup.

System restore is a good *** saver, I've had to run it couple times and cleared up issues, normally I just reformat cause every 6 months or so it's good idea to clean out ur pc and startover you get chunk in there from uninstalling/reinstalling ****.. then when something doesn't work it must be that 3rd part that's the problem not my pc cause it's been working fine. then magically the finally format there system and looky looky everything works fine and your 3rd party hardware works just perfect now.

Go to www.trendmicro.com

This is a virus detection site that almost all A+ technicians use to fix computers. Use the free online and it will find everything. What it can't get rid of it will tell you how to manually do it.

It's free....................

I use it all the time...............

And when your done.............buy a router, it blocks 99% of virus and crap, at least mine seems to.

My father in-law is going to get me a program he has that basically searches all the fat files for deleted files.

hopefully I'll find something that way.
