Persoanl experience and non-personal experience:
I was about 14 in a stolen K-Car, we were going about 50 on a gravel RD and hit a tree. All of us ok, driving a K-Car
I work at an auto wrecker, a guy we sold a probe to decided to put Kumho Ecsta Supras on his car (VERY summer tires) in the dead of winter. Scooting along at about (he guesses) 65 km/h, loses control and hits a cement road divider (those temporary ones they put up for construction). Walks out of car. I can get a pic of the car if anyone wants to see what about 65km/h does to a car made of tin.
I am very sad if accidents are bad when people impact something but on the 401 (for those who have driven it) ... it is separated by a cement wall and the 'ditch side' has like 40 metres before u even encounter bushes. Mosdt 401 deaths happen where the center median doesn't exist but all accidents occur due to falling asleep, not speeding.

back to the subject, that "defense in a box" is great too bad very few places use radar, most times they do its on open highways while the cops are drivin around, for speed traps they use laser (98% of the time) which is alot more accurate, they get YOUR speed, and the distance u are away from then within 10 cm in a second, and its not the car behind u, beside u or in the other lane goin away cus they bounce the laser off your hood, or headlight,
from my experience, the worst thing u can do is try not to own up to your actions in court, if u go in and swear on a stack u were goin 80 in a 100 and the ticket is for 150, they arent stupid, best thing u can do is admit u were in the wrong, if u have a reason, some kinda emergency or whatever that might explain (not excuse) why u were speeding, but if u go in and try to work out either a reduction in the fine, or demerits they will usually go for it,
here in calgary they just like doubled the fines for speeding, adding a victim surcharge and stuff, they also doubled the fine for running a red, or a stop sign to like $500, same with failing to yeild to a pedestrian, those i 100% agree with, but i dont think someone should be forced to take out a loan to pay off a 15km over the limit speeding ticket......
also, about raising the speedlimits, for the most part cars now are designed to be ok in the passenger compartment up to around 110km, over that they turn into parts on a highway...
look at danny heatlys modena..... 130km split the thing in half..... u figure the same would have happened if he was goin 100-110? the human body can only run a few miles per hour for a reason, we turn into puddles of goo the faster we go.....
and i know this probly sounds dumb commin from me considering i usually go bout 10 over on most major roads...... and 40 on some highways......
but its true.......

does failing to stop for a pedestrian go for all people near the road ? cause i dont stop for jaywalkers. i'll hit the breaks if they continue to walk in front of me stupidly but other then that f'em. i got five or ten demerites when i stopped for a jay walker when i took my driving test so heck with'em.

yea thats insane, but i suppose if u can lose 100k and it doesnt devastate u... meh... look at the guys involved in the brawl in the yanks redsox game, 50-75k fines..... think they will miss it?
as for stopping for pedestrians, u arent supposed to stop for someone jaywalking unless u will for sure hit em. cus by stopping in the middle of a road u are putting yourself at risk of causing an accident by stopping, but if u go thru a crosswalk while someone is still in it u can be nailed for failing to stop, which is like 250-500$ fine, even if they have one foot still in the crosswalk, on the opposite side of the road and u go thru u can get pinched.....

in response to raising speed limits...
why dont Cops just not ticket for 115 kph... saves revising the legislation which for some reason would cost thousands of $$.
a simple province-wide memo and the problem is solved... and dont tell the public.. this way people who feel comforatble at 100 go 100, and people who feel comfortable at 130 go 130 in the fast lane.
but if the police want to make an example for ticket someone who is misbehaving, they still have the window from 100 up.
in response to fighting tickets...
few people realize the kind of rights extended to them by canadian legislation. not only do laws and acts restrict what you can do legally, they also restrict what cna legally be doen to you. knowing your rights is very powerful, and eve more so if you make use of your rights.
often times officers will either step over the line intentionally or accidentally, playing the odds that most people dont fight tickets.
there are however a variety of reasons why certain people can get away with certain tickets and crimes, the methods used to cath them have to be fair. if not, bye bye ticket.
pesonally, i have received 2 tickets recently, but under $150...
i would pay them no problem if it would nto increase my insurance $4000 a year... so too bad, i go to court and waste the provinces money and time...
fix auto insurance and i'll pay, otherwise, i'll get my money's worth.
and finally...
i was ridign with my buddy before he went away to school, we were in his dads Corvette ZR-1.
got radared at 232 in a 100 zone...
his dad is the CEO of a multi-million dollar construction company...
his lawyers will take care of it.
justice for the rich... hooray
