Vertical door kits? anyone tried?

My friend wants to install the kit which allows your doors to swing straight up. It is a 2003 Mustang Mach 1 and the reason for the install is so his handicapped wife can drive it. We are wondering how much strength is required to pull the door down to close from the seated position?

If you are talking about lambo then they are awsome to look at but functionality is crap. They are a PITA to get in and out of. If it is a daily drive i would suggest you not get them especialy if it is being used by a handicaped person. If it is for a show car then giver.

yeah - lambo door is what he's looking that. so if they are a PITA no go for someone with severe disabilities. The problem with the stock door on the Mustang is it is very long, PITA to park and get opened fully, once opened fully PITA to close especially by someone weakened by disability - guess the Lambo door would be no easier though - although maybe the person could use their weight and gravity to help close it.

To open and close it is pretty easy. You can use gas shocks or accuators to help. The problem is accually getting in and out because the door makes the opening smaller and more un-natural.
Someone with reduced mobility will have a hard time getting in and out.

That way the doors are fully automatic. Open and close with a remote. Isn't that how it works?

Yeah the vertical doors are a bitch to get in and out of. I banged my head 4 times an hour working on a Civic with them. As for actuators and door poppers, they don't open the door all the way, the actuator pulls the realease cable and the popper opens the door about an inch or so.
