you can also phone 310-surf and they will walk you through it

Yeah, that Sympatico software is like a virus, I would stick with the built in XP pppoe client.

If you want to share your internet access anyways, routers are dirt cheap now-a-days, like $50 for a decent 4-port router.

The problem is for some reason I do not have the PPPoE client, I know how it works for some reason when I upgraded the PPPoE option no longer works with or without the sympatico software the only reason I tried the sympatico software was because I could not use the PPPoE option.
pinhead, I can not follow your steps that is the problem that is why I posted this, I am well aware of how to setup dsl on win XP.

Yes exactly
1)Open control panel
2) select network and internet connections from the menu
3)select setup or change your internet connection
4) brings you to the connection tab click setup
5) welcome page comes up Click next
6)options "connect to the internet", "connect to network at my work place","setup home or small office","setup advanced connection"
choose connect to the internet
7)next page options "choose from a list of ISPs", "set up manualy", "use the cd I got from my ISP"
choose the setup manualy option
8)options on page the first to a faded out (not available), "connect using dial up modem", "connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password","connect using broadband connection that is always on"

obviously the option I want is "connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" but it is not available

after you click in set up manualy
they click ok the next box should require you to input the isp adress then you click ok then the next box should allow you to enter your username and password then your done

have you tried it through your internet explorer you can click on tools then connections then setup

i have a feeling the by you installing the sympatico software you may have corrupted the computer
i'd phone sympatico and have then try and fix it
