Zip.ca - DVD rentals by mail...anyone use it?
#1
Just found out about www.zip.ca
This is a online based mail-order DVD rental kinda thing. Anyone use it?
Basiclly it appears that you pay $24.95/month, unlimited rentals per month - but you can only have 4 movies at a time. Say you choose 12 movies that you want to rent, the first 4 show up and then when you return 1 (or 4) the send you a new one (or 4)./ No contract and you can cancel ant any time....
Sounds pretty good...anyone use it?
I've done the math, and I have rented 180 movies in the last 26 months - that is on average just under 7 movies a month. At a cost of $5.25 per movie...$36.75 per month.
( I have no cable and a side job that involes watching movies... )

Sounds like a good deal... much like netflix, but for Canadians. The big thing would be selection and availability.
I prefer to buy my DVD's haven't rented one in a long time. I've bought over 200 in the last 2 years and don't want to do the math

I've been using zip.ca for about 3 months now. I absolutely love it. However, I'll be honest with you guys. All I do after receiving movies is rip them to my hard drive (440GB of space helps). Then I send the movies back the next morning. This allows me to go through about 16 movies a month. So for $24.95, 16 movies to have forever is an amazing deal.
I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone with a DVD burner, and the time to copy/encode lots of movies.
If you plan to just watch and return, it's probably not AS great, but still pretty good.
One thing to remember is that they ship and receive from Ottawa. So for me in Toronto, it takes about 2-3 days for shipping.
