The day to remember those who have fought and also died for the freedoms we so enjoy today comes closer and closer.

I'm interested to know if anyone knows any war stories involving their relatives.

My dad has a great uncle who fought in Iwo Jima in 1945. His job was to handle a dog and detect any Japanese still hiding in tunnels. Beyond that, I don't know, he has never spoke about it (for good reason too).

My grandma also had a cousin who was in the RAF and was a navigator in the Lancaster bombers and participated in many raids over Germany. I never got the chance to ask him about his experiences as he died when I was 4.

Do you know any stories involving your relatives?

My grandpa - dads dad, was a pilot in a lancaster in ww2 i believe it was. His apartment has pictures of him in his army uniform all over, a map of the world and push pins of where he's been and models of lancasters as well as photo/paintings of them.

my both my gramps fought in WWII

My dads paps had to deal with downed planes over in Europe along with supplies.

Don't know what my other Grampa did as no one talks about it...ever...he died before I was born, but I don't even think my grandma really knows. Apparently top secret stuff.

I have the honour this year of being the "vigil" at the monument in Florenceville, NB. For those that might not know, I'd be the one on the corner of the cenotaph "resting on my arm reversed".. with my rifle pointing downward and my head facing down.

Please go out this year and share some times with the veterans in your area. Learn from them so we don't make the same mistakes again, they need our support!!

One of my grandfathers fought in WWII. Got shot as I recall, died from Cancer 3years before my time...

My other Grandpa went through basic training, but was allowed to stay here because he was a farmer.

Oh ya, my Dads new C*nt bag wife's father was a Fing ****... apparently he 'forgot' to mention that to the Government when he moved to Canada 17 or 18 years ago...

(I don't know all the details.. I think he just served, and didn't do any fighting... )

Recently my buddy Barry and his 2 siblings went with thier step-grandfather to France where he was honoured for fighting in WWII. He had some pretty amaizing stories about jumping out of a shot up buring plane over enemy terratory.. burring his shoot.. living in a barn hiding from *****... ect..

I'm guessing there are quite a few people who served in europe's army in Canada.. whats the big deal?

It was 50 years ago.. they probably didn't have much of a choice anyway...

I hate people who want to bring up what happened 50 years ago and start making amends/reparations now..

its 50 years ago.. those responsible are long gone.. get over it....

Maybe your relative fought in the Winter War between Finland and Russia in 1939-40. Finland was kicking their *** for quite some time before the Russians got their butts in gear and finallly organized an effective offense.
