unifed western canadian finals august 23rd 3X....3X.....3X
I am curious to see how the whole "recession" is going to affect people doing the trek to multiple shows in order to qualify. It could be that it will not be a big deal and be beyond belief, then again, it could be just the locals at another local event. Either way, the show will still go on, but it is my guess that people will buck up, spend more at the retailer, polish that one spot in their system that needs attention, and have money on tap to be able to attend the marquise event of the year if the whole "qualifying" thing was not going to be an issue for them. I think those who do their homework and have multiple scoresheets from numerous events will be at the top of the winners list anyhow. The rare chance that someone comes from out of no where and takes the whole thing is truly that....rare.
I guess time will tell if it is just the same old crew, or if there are tons of new cars that are present at the pre-qualifying shows. If there are several cars competing early in the year that are brand new, chances are they are considering a full season of competing which possibly includes the finals. If it turns out that there are just one or two new guys in each class at these other events, I think you may have your picture of who will/will not be there.
I hope the USA brings more cars to the finals, but remember that their economics are sucking more than ours in spite of any gain they get on their dollar in Canada.
All in all, yes it is early, and perhaps all of the ideas and topics related to the event are not closed yet. I guess time will tell. One thing is for sure, there is a ton of interprovincial support for this event. I could be wrong, but I believe that people who are covering 5 miles to 500, want to see this event bring out the largest population of high caliber competitors ever seen out west. Good luck with the task of taking it all in and making it work.

This isnt about IASCA, or or any one org. This isnt about putting more cars in the lanes for just one store. I will put up a list of specifics very soon about the details of qualifying for Finals once I talk to others. I have had many emails from people liking this idea and others who hate it.
This idea is not new as other countries run this very same program and it works. Is it going to make everyone happy "no". But like I mentioned in a earlier reply we are open to SUGGESTIONS. Helping organize a competition org is not a Dictatorship and I will never run it as such but things need to change and after much thought and input from others this is one idea I would like to implement.

compromise
Besides, the scores they get will still be certified because it is a multi point event, so it is not a total loss for these guys, they just don't get a shot at the bigger prizes.
That's exactly how db drag worlds has been run for the last 2 seasons. Anyone could compete in regionals. But needed to have the points to compete in national and worlds. On a side note I need all western db drag judges to contact me regarding the canadian championships. I spoke with james about it now let's hear from the rest of the judges!

you know what pisses me off.....i can only and will only speak for here.....we spend a crapload of money on our shows.....a crapload.....this year there will be more money spent then ever and more money lost than ever.....we do this to provide a place for all over you to come and show your stuff....in other words we do this to support you guys and give you a place to do it and we always put on good shows.........in times like these where money is short for all, we are willing to buck up and make the biggest show ever in western canada...the first unified western finals ever...........all we ask is for some support from competitors......i have paid out of my pocket for people to attend our shows....paid their entrance fees and i even bought 8 track boy an amp from another dealer so he could come out, ive paid peoples gas money, ive even bought people hotel rooms so they dont have to sleep in their cars...............and what do i get......not one alberta guy has sent a sixer of mountain crest in 2 years..............BASTARDS!!!!!.....
........... .like i said i hope that all who can, will make it.....i

I agree with that premise, not only will that not restrict attendance to possibly the largest show in Western Canada, it will maybe encourage these ones to try to attend more shows in the future.

^ Not a bad idea really. The people who can't hit more than that show for whatever reason may still want to compete at a big event like that and be part of the excitement and action of it. For those that put in the time , cost and dedication to make it to multipe events to qualify for prizes, then they deserve that.
Someone else brought up a neat idea here in Calgary. What if things like Dave's SQ had bonus points set up for those who qualified by going to the multiple shows. For example, guys would get 10 points per show they attended prior to the finals (to a maximum of 30). Anyone who did not go to any, would already be 30 points behind the guy who went to the three. This would almost eliminate any chance of a guy just showing up and cleaning up. He would have to beat the next guy by over 30 points to do it. Yes, he would be able to compete for the same prizes, but he would have to pull off a magic act to win.
I thought it was an interesting idea.
DAVE.......don't forget to remind me!!!
