that is exactly the attitude that killed out industry in the mid 90 Will.. sorry but i have been in this industry since 87 and seen the glory and the guts of what can happen to our events... closing the doors does nothing but promote a cold attitude... sorry if your system has been altered by someone during a show but i have been to over 50 and have never,(on purpose, thanks Dave) had my car altered or dirtied. most people just want to look insided and take a few pics. hell i would never sit in an open car at any show..nor have i seen any kid or adult do that.. now thats not to say it hasent been done. but man thats rare...... now i have travelled to shows with wife two kids and luggage ie saskatoon. and had a spotless car for the show.... put all items under the car!! and when i went through the lanes my wife watched the gear..... most people respect our investments and our efferts and just want to see what we have done..... as far as respect... i always open my hood, trunk doors and play tunes at shows then leave my car and socialize..... at one show i was drinking inside and it started to rain so one of Daves guys rolled up my windows and shut everything down for me......... SWEET!! have faith my good friend and enjoy the next show.... ps when is the next event?
good for you randy!!!! but again, your car is a show car......MINE is NOT.
when I did have my show car, I too would leave it open, only to find NUMEROUS kids in my car, and their parents standing there watching them.....even when there are clearly marked signs that say DO NOT TOUCH. I have no problem showing someone my system, and I do at EVERY SHOW, just not until AFTER what I have come there to actually do.
maybe you've been lucky with people in your cars, or maybe you missed people going into your car, or maybe you don't care that someone scratched your $3000 paint job like they've done on my car, but some people do have those issues, and being an spler, I use my girlfriend to help me in the lanes......and vice-versa, not to sit on the sidelines and watch my things. safest place is in the car, out of sight, out of mind....
agreed WILL our cars our our investment, i will revamp my last statement.......... what i would like to see in lanes is cars AVAILIBLE to be shown... that means let the people milling around know whats going on with your car.... most people would be more than interested in knowing what going on!! this is your chance to be a representative for our hobby and give it some credibility.... what i dont like is the cars locked up and alarmed and the owner not around. open your doors and stick around your car to give a 'guided tour' of your ride..... as far as scratches.... hell they can happen anywhere as well as dents, stains ect............ and lastly my yellow and black car are daily drivers, the black car has put on over 100000 km going to shows since 2004 and the yellow car has only been competing one yr but has hit 15 shows and gets me to hockey and work everyday.....
Agreed 100% with everything Goalie said. A 3x event is even that much more important, IMO, to have a clean presentable car. I guess I've come accustomed to SPL cars being nasty to look at and that's fine. I really don't care. Maybe that's why these people kept their rides closed, because they were nasty to look at. The Soundstream Wave/Aveo though was nicely installed. Good job! Some cars though were there for SQ (or so it seemed) and to see them closed up was disappointing.
I have competed and attended quite a few sound offs in my life as well and have never yet had a negative experience having my car open and on display. I guess your experiences have been different.
To those who arm their alarms while entered in a sound-off..........noob.
I heard you had some car troubles Randy???

I think don't think our sport since the 80's has truly died, it has changed directions. I think (opinion here) two things have happened:
1- the fad ended, what was going on with a hundred cars in a line waiting to be judged by one of three or four judges was still a great unknown, there was romance and mystery and they were giving away huge awards (money, trophies, swag, cars). The formulas for success were not written yet, there was good sound and there was great sound... I am not sure many of the oldies can stack up to the best of the last 10 years. Certainly the digital revolution has made better HU and better sounding processors too. But great sound achieved will live on even if only in memories.
2- SPL was born from the loins of SQ. While this needed to be done it diluted the interest in SQ and ultimately in sound offs... SQ became less sexy and more nerdy, and SPL more raw and brute force. Few SQ installs are as impressive as a big SPL rig, and very few SPL installs have the artistry and satisfaction of a SQ install. bottom line VERY few if any SPL rigs can do a 4 page photo shoot in a car audio mag and not look like a snake pit, and a SQ rig just cant impress the girls with sheer power as you drive down the street. (you just dont girls say "oooooh look at the size of that tweeter... and it is positioned to please the passenger too)
The pitfall to be avoided:
1- SQ becoming elitist... yes we know we are better than SPL I mean we do take showers periodically!
2- SPL becoming too rude... every year the rules for driving and making amplified noise get tighter and every year amplifier power gets smaller and cheaper...

wow, what a bitch fest. lol, goalie honestly why do u even care if the cars are locked, they're there to compete not to show off. most of us have valuble in our cars and would like those items to still be there after the show like will said. spl isnt for looks, as u can tell a loud car isnt never a nice one, its for performance not show.
I was not a happy guy the next day when i found a huge dent in my left front fender from people leaning on it like they own the damn thing. next show im not gonna be as leanent with people being around my car.
