ALPINE supported steering wheel commands?????????????????????
Hi to all car audio maniacs out there,
I have plans to buy an Alpine navigation unit (IXA-W407 or INA-W900). I want to know what steering wheel command are available from those head units through the steering wheel mini jack.
I plan to buy a new car who's going to have Bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel (Call, Hang and Voice Call), and I want to use them to be handsfree.
In case you ask, the steering wheel interface I plan to buy is the AXXESS ASWC that support those new commands but I wonder now if the ALPINE might be the limitation.
Any help is appreciated,
Charles

What will the vehicle be? I do not know of any current headunit that has bluetooth on board that will operate using the OEM bluetooth interface. Steering wheel controls for volume etc, that is easy. A headunit that controls the factory bluetooth is going to be something different altogether.

The car will be a Camry 2010 or Sonata 2011 both with resistor type steering wheel button.
I want to use those button via an adapter to control de new head unit.
Again, even if the buttons and adapter can transfer the signal, doesn't mean that the head unit will understand it and this what I want to find out from Alpine.
Thanks,
Charles

If it is a Toyota product, the Eclipse AVN726e should work seamlessly with the audio controls for the steering wheel function without any outboard adaptor. Again though, I have not seen any aftermarket head unit manufacturer have the onboard bluetooth work with a OEM outboard bluetooth control. I will endevour to find more information for you.

Seeing that Eclipse is going out of business, not sure if its a good option, but I understand were you're getting at.
I'm thinking that I'm a little ahead of manufacters on this one. Steering wheel phone buttons will be the norm and aftermarket will adjust to that but just not yet.
Thanks for looking after this, I start to realize thats a tricky one

Eclipse is not going out of business. Please advise the person who is ing the misinformation. What they are doing is simple, they have discontinued 95% of their aftermarket business. The 5% that remains and will remain is the double din navigation units and the accessories for them. This is also due in part to their commitment to Toyota to continue to provide the OEM product for them that they have for years under their parent name of Fujitsu Ten. The double din nav units from Eclipse is here to stay and it is a spectacular unit.

Hi Rob,
You seem to know your stuff pretty well. Look like I was misinformed and its good news. I heard a lot of good things about Eclipse but never seen one here in Montreal, no one sells them.
Now couple of questions for you:
- Can you initiate a voice dialed call with the head unit? Please note that my phone has the capability for voice dial. Some radio just open the Bluetooth port by holding few seconds the Off hook button and others have a specific button.
- There's no update for their maps and Bluetooth. That scares me quite a bit.
- There is no gyro, accelerometer or speed pulse in it. It makes a bit difference here in Montreal with the big buildings and tunnels.
Let me know, I'm still open

I will find out about voice dialing. My shop is closed today and it is my installers only day off so I do not want to wake him up right now (although I really should....hehehe I am a evil bastard). The mapping is a flash memory and is web updateable. The Bluetooth software is current A2DP and like most others on the market, it is not upgradeable. Where you have buildings in Montreal, we have tunnels, mountains, trees and all the women (really they are all here in Whistler...). I have never had a instance that a customer of mine, either back east or here locally has had a issue of their GPS not working. The unit tracks from a number of satellites, not a single one. If there is a drop out, it is going to be rather quick at reaquiring a signal. There is a very good reason that this unit is the number 1 rated model in the category, I encourage you to give it a try.
