Amp Protection

Amp Protection
I have a 1997 Grand Prix SE, with a 12" Clarion Sub, 4 Channel Clarion Amp, 2 Channel Dual Amp(LOL)...I had everything working fine for about 4 days, than all of a sudden my Amp Protector for the Sub turned on. I've gone through a list of things that went wrong when I first installed everything...My REM hookup came loose(Fixed That), Problem not solved, Checked my amp fuse(was fine), checked the Power cable fuse at Battery(was fine), I thought it was my ground cable so I switched that to a better spot, still protection light is on I thought maybe it was my amp became faulty..so I tested my buddies and the same happened his Protection light came on...I've spent over 18hours playing around with everything to my knowledge...Could an expert/experienced person give me some advice/ideas please? Or a list of why the protection light would be on??

What do you mean by that? I was just messing around with it again and Found that with the ground disconnected from the amp the protect light stays on obviously...but when I touch the ground wire to the Ground spot on the amp, the light turns off but not "green". Is there a simple explanation to that?

If that is correct, then it is a wiring issue.
1- but you have been forcing your amp into protection so long you may have permanently damaged it (does it work on a test bench or a friends car prior to going to step 2)
2- take a known good amp, put it in (do not hook up speaker wires) before you hook up power verify the power wire to the amp + is + and - is -, also verify the voltage is over 12 volts. THEN you can safely connect power to the amp (again verify + to + and - to -) as reversing power to the amp is bad/ not good/ expensive. does the protect light come on?
do these steps prior to any more

The sub is fine, that was one of the first things I checked. I don't understand one thing though, The one ground spot turns the amp on but puts it into protection. The second spot I tried, nothing turns on. If this is a wire issue which it seems to be now, What are the options of whats wrong? I'm not able to test my amp's on another system due to nobody being around right now... I also have two REM cables for both my amps I tested both which work as well. I have a feeling it's my ground...but from what I did the ground should be amazing...I sanded the paint off..bolted it down to the frame by the truck lock mechanism an that's the spot that won't work :S

So the amp is ALWAYS in protection... and when you put a different amp in your car it also went into protection ...correct?

if you have done what you have said you have done correctly... then it is most likely your power/ wire but it could also be your speaker wiring but you have to use a systematic approach (as above) or you will waste many more hours
