amp shuts down?

does it only happen when you play your ipod? any difference between the two? because I noticed with my system, when i play music with my ipod my amp's red light goes on and says its overloaded. But with cd's it never happened.

no it happened with both.....i took out the alpine amp and installed my brothers 600 watt kaption audio one, doesnt cut out anymore...but id think that the alpine would be able to hold up...im not sure what to think...but its possible that the kaption could be burning out or else just on the brink of it....the alpine amp is much better quality tho, and should put out a higher RMS than the kaption

Boston Acoustics G110-44 DVC 10" 4-OHM DVC Component Subwoofer
Component, Subwoofer - 10" - 200 W - Passive Speaker - Foam, Poly/Plastic Dual voice coils, copolymer woofer cone, foam surround, RadialVent cooling, SureSet impedance selection and overdrive protection, 50-200W RMS power range, 24-350 Hz frequency response
So, your choices with 2 dcv4 ohm woofers are:
Series the coils on each, then parallel the 2 woofers together for a 4 ohm total load, (4+4/2=4)
Or,
Parallel the coils on each woofer and parallel the 2 woofers for a 1 ohm toal load, (4/2/2=1)
the second option would (and should) send the amp into overcurrent protection.
If that's not the problem, you could try narrowing the frequency range.
trying to feed the amp 10 to 200 Hz would cause too much wasted current.
Try narrowing it to 30-80 Hz.
Good Luck!!

I own that amp too and I know for a fact that it shuts off and says (CUR) when a 1 ohm load is present!
Re-wire your subs and go purchase a volt meter at Home Depot or Radio Shack and check your impedance!
Did you buy Dual Coils or Single Coils? Two Single 4ohm coils would of game you a 2ohm load. That amp works great at 2ohms
