Car Audio Shuts off at random

Hello, so I have been searching and searching and cannot seem to find anything that pertains to my circumstances.

The problem I am having started about a year ago, the car audio will suddenly shut off while playing, at first I could get a few minutes, then other times 30 minutes of audio playing, now I cannot even get a minute before it shuts itself off. What happens is the audio will play then it will start to cut out for a brief few seconds and get really low so that you can barely hear it. Then it completely cuts out and you can hear a small bass thump from the rear passenger speaker.

I thought it might have been a speaker issue so I disconnected both rear speakers, the same problem presented itself, however there was no bass thump (obviously as the speakers were disconnected).

It seemed like at first when it was really cold out out (-35C) it would stay on longer, now I cannot get any more than a minute regardless of temperature outside. The deck stays on and if I push the power button on and off it will come back for a brief second and shut right back off - Although when you try to turn it back on it has that really low muffled sound you can barely hear; seems like you have to wait at least 10 minutes before you can even regain 5 seconds of clear audio before shutting off.

I should also note that when the audio does cut out I am able to drop the volume **** and it shows the audio level decreasing, however it will not let me raise the audio level until I power on and off - It just gets stuck at whatever number the audio shut off at or I can lower the volume **** (not like it makes a difference since there is no audio coming out).

This is a factory deck in a Dodge Caliber 2010 SXT with absolutely no modifications to the cars audio or any other area. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sadly this sounds like a Output issue. Then there is the point of not knowing what model of Stereo you have in your Ride. I know that you said it is Stock, However there is loads of different stock radios.. Some with Nav and some without. Some with Aux input on the button right and some without.

Sadly even knowing your rig is a SXT don't help because there are just to many options for the HU. single disc with MP3 and 6 disc and so on.

In the End it sounds like a Output issue. Only way to try a different head unit or speakers. I don't know if your rig has the Amps on the Speakers, in the Deck or under/in somewhere.

There was a Premium Sound Group system with Media Center 430 CD/DVD/HDD On the HEAT, Sadly you call yours an SXT so I would have to assume that it is a 2009 model year sold in 2010. There was in 2010 and 2011 5 Trim levels. Express, Mainstreet, Heat, Uptown and Rush. This trim was SXT with options to suit the needs of the driver. North America and was SE, SXT and SXT plus again in 2012

There was many many options. Like the 430 as stated above, then there was the 730N like what I have in my 2012 Chrysler T&C. Then for your system there was the standard 4 speaker system or the MusicGate Power upgrade that includes 9 Boston Acoustics speakers with Sub and swing down lift gate speakers and 360 watt amp.

If you could update us with your Model trim or year and stereo picture it may be easier to help you with your problem better.

Besides all that, Again as stated before it is an issue with your output, Either deck, Amp or amp built onto the speakers.

James
