I have type x subs, but i need an amp

hey, so i have 1 type x sub and in need of an amp...I know a 1000rms watt amp is recommended but i was wondering if i can under power the sub?
ive heard from different dealers that either its ok, but it wont pound as hard, or that under powering a sub risks blowing the subs...im not sure if i want to pay for a 1000rms watt amp as theyre very pricey...

so let me know
thanks

You can underpower a speaker all day long. You can even overpower a speaker all day long. Both options of course provided that you do not break the thermal or mechanical barriers of the sub. Too small of an amp 99% of the time results in a amp that is incorrectly set up and the potential to damage a sub is that much greater. You cannot get any more power out of an amp that is too small. At least if it is too big, it can be tamed. Figure out your budget of the new amp and drop me a PM with it and I will see what I can find for you.

So if i were to get it all installed at a shop by professionals it would most likely be ok right?
my friend has a mono black with produces 850rms watt and was seeing if that could work

A blown speaker is 99% of the time the fault of the guy who runs the volume control. If you put brand new tires on your car, they are on the car nice and tight, inflated correct and you burn them off doing the Pilsbury Tire Bakeoff at every light and all of a sudden they are bald, is it the guy who sold you the tires fault or the guy who operates the gas pedal? Same goes for your sub.....

Definitely get a bigger amp ideally. The Type X subs are a great sub, not screamingly efficient so the more power you have on tap, the happier you are going to be. You can't turn up a amp that is too small, you can however turn down a amp that is too big.
