Lightning subwoofer...box size matter?

hey guys...I had a LA-1X12V Lightning sub catch fire the other day..thank god I smelt it before the whole car went up...if anyone has idea idea how that might have happened let me know anyway I went and got the amp and wiring checked and all was ok so i replaced the sub with a renegade 12 inch box...i know these are not great subs but the lightning did the job for me....Im a little unhappy with the sound of the renegade box...I doubt the speakers are all that different but the main thing I do notice is box size...the lightning box is bigger and ported in the front vs the renegade smaller ported on top... Would it be a waste of time to put the renegade sub in the lightning box??? will i maybe get the sound im looking for back?

Box size and tuning does matter. It would be worth the experiment to try your new woofer in the old enclosure.
