not enough minivan power

Hey guys, I tried out hypnotize by young jeezy in my car and the dirty lows in the beginning cause my amp to shut off. i have two runs of power cable and one run of ground. power cables being one 8g and one 4g w/ distributor block. the ground wire is 4g and not too long from its grounding point from the amp. i replaced the battery under the hood last christmas with an eliminator series canadian tire battery. its supposed to be deep cycle and what not but i know its no SPL ready batt.

its only on this song for some reason that makes the problem occur. i play some harder songs but i guess its the duration of the low notes. my alternator is stock, and my amp is definitely not over heating, i made sure that there is no surface contact anywhere on the amp to make use of its heat sinks.

im not sure what to do, i tried sanding and cleaning where terminal rings are placed as well. i hope i dont need a new alt or battery because i dont have the money to do that kind of thing right now lol. i still have not tried the big 3 either but i dont know how much it would help at this point?

any help is appreciated

do u know why the amp turns off?

what does the voltage drop to?

does the amp protect or power down/shut off?

big three may not solve all of your problems, but it can do nothing but help. and it is quite cheap and easy.
you amp may be shutting off for reason other than insufficient power. you could simply be overloading it to the point of shutdown.
...i wouldn't think that one L5 on a exile amp would draw so much power your car couldn't keep it running. but who knows:P

When i first read this i was thinking oh he has it wired for peak potential and is demanding to low of an ohmage. I know that exile amp is supposedlly stable to 1 ohm, how do you have it wired do you have the dvc in series or parallel to the amp. Is that a two channel amp, you have it bridged. Like yuli said though is it going into protect mode or is it shutting right down.

this used to happen to my with my kenwood amp every time i played Real Talk by Trae. disgusting lows, and when i slowed it down it really banged. anyways, long story short the amp was overheating. i know you said thats not what it was doing, but my amp used to be in sunlight all the time, and then when i moved it under my seat the problem stopped until the summer. then i ended up taking the covers off and putting a fan on it, and it never happened again. like i said, i know you said it isn't over heating, but my amp was rated 2 ohm stable and i had it running at 1.3 for 3 years, 2 of which came after it started giving me the problems. by the looks of it the sub and amp are a good combo, but if it is shutting down one low notes, my experience would say its overheating.

thats a good question lol i should see if its going into protect. i wasnt thinking at the time and just turned everything off while driving and then turning it back on again and my amp would be fine.
im running my sub and amp at 2ohms, and its a dual 4ohm sub.

A two ohm load on a 1 ohm stable amp shouldn't be ****. 800 rms (@ 2ohms) into a L5 should be perfect... Maybe upgrade to one size power/ground, and use the old stuff for Big 3???

good idea! i may scrap my existing wires to do the big 3 and then get proper 0/1g wires for my amp. 4 or 8g should be enough for big 3 right? or do i need the biggest wires.

how much stress would a second battery put on a stock alt??

I'd use at least 4ga for the Big 3. Upgrade the wire and do big 3 before you start to think about another battery. I had to go from 2ga to 2/0 when I upgraded from my RF 800a2 to the JBL BPx2200.1. Then I used the 2ga for my Big 3. I would think 1/0 will get the juice where you need it. My amp would shut down everytime I turned it up too loud. After I switched the power wire it stopped doing that.

I used Princess Auto wire, good product and a good price...
