What is a Class D Amp?
Class D amplifiers are a higher efficiency design. The output at the transistor is switched at a very high frequency between the positive and negative supply rails to increase efficiency greatly. Typically, a Class D amplifier can have upwards of 80% efficiency, whereas a class AB could be ~60% efficient. Class D amplifiers are most common in mono sub amps, but in the last 5 years, developments have lead to full range class D amps. Class D is still relatively new to full range amplifiers, and I doubt you would find very many for car audio. Additionally, THD is generally a little higher in Class D (audibility is arguable) and please note that the D does not stand for digital
Hope that helps a bit.
