If you've got a 12w6 I'd be looking for someone to build a custom enclosure for it, nothing prefab unless it's made by JL for that sub. I personally like them in a sealed enclosure but they work well in ported as well. I'm not big fan of bandpass, just don't like how most of them sound.

have to agrre with installman on the band pass all noise no sq, get something better for sure, most any company recomends sealed enclosures for woofers as you have a smaller chance of blown the hell out of the woofer. sealed may be less effincient, but in the long term your money lasts longer.

well i want a ported box, but i have no idea how to go about making it, i sort of like the looks of rounded ports better, but i have no idea how to build a box, or how to design it and the bandpass box that came with the sub is custom made for the W6

Took a couple minutes searching on JL's site, but I found this PDF file for you....
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/8-12W6_BDS.pdf
That should give you all the info you need, and if the bassworx box is the right size (or at least close) you should be OK.
According to WinISD, 2.25cuft vented with a 12" X 2" slot vent 17.88" long, tuned to 35hz should work like a charm...
