Deadened steel vs. MDF + double baffle question
just remember, the lower the box tuned the more power you will need to get it loud.
like Dukk said, not much content is below 30hz.
also, a car does not have a single loudest frequency. it changes depending on cone area, power and box.

Thanks for the info and help, very much appreciated!
Too much power in a large box will be more likely cause over excursion, hence Orion's recommendation for a smaller box for full power. Correct?

New plan. Building the drop box out of metal was going to be a pain in the ****, not too mention the fact we'd have to glass it to make it rigid enough anyway. So he thought if we build a wooden mould (easier than a steel box and something that I could do) we could just build it out of fiberglass. But then we have to go about removing it from the mould, which wasn't a huge deal, but still. Then I thought, if I built the box ('mould') out of mdf, glass'd the outside to protect it from the weather, we wouldn't have to worry about removing the box and it would be easier to tie in the upper portion of the box when I got to that stage.
Now, if I glass'd the outside of the mdf, would it add the same rigidity as glass'ing the inside of steel, therefore giving me leeway to use thinner mdf material?
